Program Extensions

Students on F-1 visas must keep the program dates on their I-20 form current in order to maintain student status in the United States.

You are responsible for understanding your I-20 form.

  • Pay attention to the "Program Start/End Date" on your I-20 under "Program of Study." These dates must be current at all times!

  • If you would like to stay at CELAC or the University of New Mexico later than your program end date, you must extend your I-20 BEFORE the end date.

  • To extend your I-20 form, you must complete the CELAC Request Form either online or in person at the GEO front desk.

    • Please select the "I-20 Extension" box and check which semesters you would like to extend your I-20 for (fall, spring, summer, academic year, or full year).

  • If you have any questions, please email or visit a CELAC immigration advisor during advising hours from 1:00 – 2:00 PM Monday through Friday.
