Conditional Admission to UNM
Conditional admission means that a student meets all academic requirements to be admitted to the University of New Mexico, but that they do not meet the English proficiency requirement.
The University of New Mexico can issue an undergraduate conditional admission letter to international students who fall into this category.
Students who receive undergraduate conditional admission must successfully complete the CELAC program at UNM along with CELAC's recommendation to transfer to academic study.
Undergraduate Admission Checklist:
☐ Complete the online UNM undergraduate application at the following link: https://international.unm.edu/apply-now/index.html
☐ Pay the UNM application fee.
☐ Pay the $50 non-refundable CELAC application fee and provide proof of payment
This fee can be paid online by credit card, by U.S. bank personal check, or international money order made payable to “University of New Mexico”
☐ Complete the CELAC application form
☐ Complete financial guarantee for ONE YEAR
Please see “Costs” breakdown for F-1 visa applicants
Once we have received all documents and the student is determined to be eligible, the student will be sent a conditional admission letter from International Admissions. They will also be sent a CELAC acceptance letter and UNM CELAC program I-20 form.
Once the English proficiency level is achieved through CELAC and the student is admitted to UNM, a new I-20 form for academic studies will be issued.
