Health Insurance
Health insurance is MANDATORY for international students on an F-1 student visa while attending the University of New Mexico. All F-1 students must have health insurance!
Any health insurance that you purchase must meet minimum US government requirements, which are:
- $100,000 minimum per person per accident or illness
- $25,000 for repatriation of remains
- $50,000 for medical evacuation
- No more than $500 deductible per accident or illness
- Coinsurance must not exceed 25% payable by the exchange visitor or sponsor
We recommend you buy one of the 4 policies on the International Student Insurance (ISI)

Student Health and Counseling Center (SHAC)
All CELAC students can use the Student Health and Counseling Center (SHAC) on UNM campus for their general medical needs.

Immunizations
Before coming to the University of New Mexico, all students are required to have the Category A immunizations:
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
- Meningococcal (Men serogroups A, C, W, and Y)
- Varicella (Var)
The following additional immunizations are recommended but not required:
- Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap)
- Influenzal
